Report: Arsenal and Chelsea enter race for £50m-rated Spurs target

Tottenham’s pursuit of Nico Williams might just have got a lot harder, with reports indicating that Arsenal and Chelsea are now ready to make their moves for the Athletic Club Bilbao star.

The race for Nico Williams is hotting up

This report comes from CaughtOffside, who claim that Williams’ suitors are growing by the day, with Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain thought to have previously expressed an interest in the striker.

The report adds that those sides have now been joined in the race for the 21-year-old by both Arsenal and Chelsea, with the Gunners allegedly even willing to meet the player’s €58m (£49m) release clause.

It is explained that Mikel Arteta wants the Spain international to offer competition to Gabriel Marteneli and Tottenham’s North London rivals might thus be prepared to spend big on the attacker.

Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea all like Nico Williams

Meanwhile, CaughtOffside add that there are doubts over whether Chelsea would be able to afford Williams’ release clause but the Blues are currently thought to be very much in the race for the winger’s signature.

Williams is currently starring for Spain at the European Championships this summer, with his nation winning three out of three group-stage matches.

Tottenham have already signed Timo Werner on a 12-month loan to strengthen their roster of wingers this summer, but appear to be on the lookout for more firepower.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham were always going to have to overcome plenty of competition to land Williams this summer.

The fact that so many clubs have made advances for the winger perhaps suggests that despite the 21-year-old publicly declaring his intention to stay at Bilbao, his representatives have communicated an openness to a summer transfer.
