Ipswich Town advancing talks to sign Hutchinson

Chelsea and newly-promoted Premier League club Ipswich Town have reportedly advanced talks over a deal worth £20-25 million for Omari Hutchinson.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Omari Hutchinson is closing in on completing a permanent move to Ipswich Town in the summer transfer window. The newly-promoted Premier League club and Chelsea have advanced talks over a deal worth £20-25 million for the 20-year-old prodigy. The agreement will not contain a buyback clause.

The Omari Hutchinson tale

Omari Hutchinson has had to bide his time since joining Chelsea from Arsenal in July 2022. A native of Redhill, the Englishman began his youth career at Charlton Athletic before spending seven years at Arsenal. However, his Chelsea career has yet to take off, although he has made two appearances for the first team.

Meanwhile, Hutchinson spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Ipswich Town and played his part as the Tractor Boys returned to the Premier League after over two decades. The 20-year-old prodigy turned out 50 times across all competitions for Ipswich Town, chipping in with 11 goals and six assists.

The English attacking prospect has returned to Chelsea after his successful loan spell with Ipswich Town. However, the Tractor Boys have been eager to seal a permanent move to secure Omari Hutchinson’s services in the summer transfer window after his impressive impact in the 2023/24 season.

Will Hutchinson return to Ipswich?

Ipswich Town’s eagerness to complete a permanent move for Omari Hutchinson this summer is understandable. The Tractor Boys want familiarity in the squad as they prepare for the Premier League challenge in the 2023/24 season. While they should make a few upgrades, retaining the squad’s core is also critical.

That will continue to happen, with Ipswich Town advancing talks with Chelsea over a permanent deal for Hutchinson. The newly-promoted Premier League club will cough up £20-25 million. In addition, they are discussing personal terms with the 20-year-old Englishman’s representatives. Interestingly, the deal will not include a buyback clause.

Instead, Ipswich Town will insert a sell-on clause, meaning Chelsea will receive money when Hutchinson leaves the Tractor Boys to join another club in future. It will be interesting to see how quickly Ipswich can seal the deal worth £20-25 million for the English prodigy with the pre-season campaign around the corner.
