Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be busy in the transfer market as Ange Postecoglou looks to build on his solid maiden season at N17.
Spurs hit the ground running under Postecoglou last season and, though they faded towards the end of the campaign, they still finished fifth.
Tottenham were in contention for a top-four finish for most of the season and were even dark horses for the Premier League title at one point.
The job now for the Spurs hierarchy is to strengthen the squad so Postecoglou’s charges can last the distance next season.
Tottenham could well look to bolster their attacking ranks, with numerous wingers and forwards having been linked with a move to Spurs in recent weeks.
For instance, Tottenham have been linked with Genoa and Iceland ace Albert Gudmundsson, as well as Sporting Lisbon’s Marcus Edwards.
Now, a report has emerged reiterating Spurs’ interest in “one of the best strikers in the world”, and also claimed he could cost as little as £20million.
Tottenham keen on Jonathan David
The player in question is Lille star Jonathan David, whose contract expires next summer.
According to 90Min, four Premier League clubs in particular have their sights set on David, namely Tottenham, Manchester United, Chelsea and West Ham.
Lille significantly dropping their price tag down from £45million has seemingly made him a far more appealing option this summer compared to previous windows.
Suitors are aware a deal is available for under £30million, and if a guaranteed-fee heavy structure is tabled, potentially £10million less than that, added the report.
Spurs must swoop for David amid discount reports
Jonathan David is an incredibly prolific striker, with 84 goals and 18 assists to his name from 183 Lille outings, plus 27 goals from 50 caps for Canada.
Indeed, Canadian sports expert Tony Marinaro has described him as “one of the best strikers in the world”.
The 24-year-old is also one of the quickest players in Ligue 1. According to The Speeds Database, he’s faster than the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison.
All in all, Jonathan would be a great shout for Tottenham, but they need to get a move on, because there will be a lot of interest in his signature.
