West Ham to offer striker to Southampton to get deal done

HITC understands West Ham United have opened talks with Southampton over the signing of one key defender for the South Coast club.

West Ham United are set to lose English defender Ben Johnson after it appeared that the English international would indeed put pen to paper on a new deal.

However, Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town are now closing in on the signing of the defender and this has left the Hammers in a position where they need to replace the Englishman.

Sources have now confirmed to HITC that the Hammers have opened talks with Southampton for the signing of right-back Kyle Walker-Peters.

After a 1-0 win over Bristol City, Russell Martin was full of praise for the right-back, who scored the decisive goal, when he told the BBC: “He can score more and assist more. It’s a brilliant, brilliant goal.”

West Ham ready to offer players in exchange to get deal done

The Hammers are understood to have offered a swap deal for the England international as they are proposing Flynn Downes to The Saints, after he impressed during his loan spell at St Mary’s Stadium.

HITC can also reveal that West Ham have offered Danny Ings to the Saints, which we understand is of interest to Russell Martin’s side.

Ings has struggled at West Ham and Aston Villa since departing the South Coast side and sources have confirmed that Martin’s team would be interested in bringing the English forward back.

Ings was certainly a popular figure for the club as he netted 41 times in 91 games for the Saints and a returned to the newly promoted club would make a lot of sense.

Southampton are busy in the summer transfer market as they have secured the signing of Burnley left-back Charlie Taylor – who has agreed a two-year deal and will arrive on a free transfer.

Saints persuade Englishman to turn down Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool

The South Coast club are understood to have received interest from Manchester City and Liverpool for Alex McCarthy.

However, sources have told HITC that the Saint have convinced the Englishman to turn down interest from some of the Premier League’s biggest sides with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal understood to be interested.

All three of these sides were understood to want McCarthy as a number two for their team, whilst there has also been interest from Celtic in the 34-year-old.
