Young Chelsea winger Omari Hutchinson has completed his transfer, for an Ipswich Town club-record fee of £20m, with an additional £2.5m in add-ons.
The deal also includes a sell-on clause, said to be 25 per cent, ensuring Chelsea will benefit from any future transfer.
Arsenal, Hutchinson’s former club, will receive their own percentage from this current deal, reportedly 15 per cent (i.e. £3m), due to their own sell-on provision from his previous transfer.
Hutchinson’s journey began in the Chelsea Academy before he moved to Arsenal via Charlton Athletic. He returned to Chelsea in 2022 but made only a couple appearances off the bench in his first season. Despite his clear potential, the 20-year-old will now aim to fulfil his promise away from the Bridge.
Ipswich Town head coach Kieran McKenna, who showed great faith in Hutchinson last year in the Championship, will most certainly continue to trust in his abilities as they prepare for the challenge of staying in the Premier League. The Jamaica international’s permanent move marks a significant step in his career, and he will be looking to continue making a strong impact at Ipswich after helping them clinch promotion last season.
“We think Omari is a fantastic player and person to have at the Club for the long-term future. He has a hunger to improve and show that he can compete and thrive in the Premier League.”
