Newcastle United were all over the news during a frantic weekend of transfer rumours.

Indeed, some Premier League clubs were in something of a rush to get at least some of their business done ahead of the deadline to adhere to Profit and Sustainability rules on June 30.

Things at Newcastle were reportedly quite panicked but there is now hope they are on track to comply and thereby avoid a ten-point deduction.

In order to get over the line, hard decisions had to be made.

Eddie Howe, after all, was reportedly not wanting to lose Elliot Anderson but he eventually had to join Nottingham Forest on Sunday night.

While the Magpies boss was reportedly telling PIF not to sell Alexander Isak, another exciting player had to depart.

What shocked Brighton staff during talks with Newcastle over Yankuba Minteh

According to The Chronicle, decision-makers at the south coast club were “blown away” by the forward’s impressive data statistics.

As a result, they did not hesitate in trying to sign the 19-year-old, who has signed a five-year contract at the Amex Stadium.

Newcastle staff were not happy about selling Yankuba Minteh

Members of Howe’s backroom staff are understood to have been frustrated about the idea of selling Minteh before he even played a game for the club, such is the high esteem in which he’s held.

After excelling on loan at Feyenoord, the plan was to let Howe assess the player in pre-season.

In an ideal world, he would be continuing his development under Howe’s watchful guidance.

However, the PSR rules simply did not allow that to happen.

Hopefully, Newcastle won’t come to live to regret this…

Yankuba Minteh is thought to have been a reluctant sale on Tyneside but eventually joined Brighton.
