Celtic complete new signing as he arrives in club tracksuit

Celtic have officially completed the signing of Aston Villa goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo, sources have told Football Insider.

An official announcement from the Scottish outfit confirmed he’s signed a five-year deal, with the 22-year-old having already joined up with his teammates.

The Finland international had been spotted at Glasgow Airport today in a club tracksuit as the club prepared to fly off to embark on their US pre-season tour.

Football Insider exclusively revealed last Saturday that the Hoops were working on signing a second goalkeeper after reaching an agreement with Kasper Schmeichel.

Sinisalo spent last season on loan at Exeter City and kept 13 clean sheets in 45 League One appearances.

Celtic have signed Viljami Sinisalo to provide competition

It is believed that Sinisalo will initially join the club to be the back-up goalkeeper to the more experienced Schmeichel.

The former Leicester City shot-stopper is set to be the number one for Celtic, but he will also mentor Sinisalo throughout his time at the club.

Given Schmeichel’s age, it is expected that Sinisalo will eventually take over from him as the first-choice goalkeeper, if he continues progressing.

Celtic had been in the market for a goalkeeper after Joe Hart retired at the end of last season, and the defending Scottish Premiership champions now have two in the door.

Both goalkeepers will be under immediate pressure at Celtic Park due to the impact Hart had on the team, as he kept 64 clean sheets in 153 appearances.
