Deal Done: Lexi Thompson Signs a contract Extension of $567.9 million

If this is Lexi Thompson’s final Solheim Cup, she will leave as the U.S. team’s mainstay for over ten years.

GAINESVILLE, VA — Lexi Thompson’s playing career in the Solheim Cup is coming to an end. Since Thompson revealed in May that this season will be her last full-time season, her captains have been facing the fact that their time is running out, but it has been difficult to envision stepping in to fill the vacuum she would leave. Thompson often praises the honor of wearing her nation’s colors, and the Solheim Cup is her favorite event.

Even while wrestling with the decision to announce her retirement, making the U.S. team to play on American soil again at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club was at the top of the star’s goals for 2024. Four top 10 finishes helped Thompson earn a captain’s pick from Stacy Lewis for her seventh Solheim Cup. But hearing Lewis describe Thompson’s impact on the team, she may have made the team regardless of how she played.

“I think it is her legacy, is her and the Solheim Cup,” Lewis stated. “Just the way she is with the crowd and the fans, this event is Lexi to a T.”

Since 2013, when she was eighteen, Thompson has appeared on every American roster. The most seasoned player on this U.S. squad has played four-ball with Lewis and all four of the American assistant captains throughout the years, reminding Paula Creamer of their time together.
